What to do with the Leftovers: Fabric Scrap Garland

The last couple months, I have been pretty much obsessed with making these.  I made them before Little O’s birthday to hang above our windows.  I made them for a baby shower my mom was hosting, I made them for my sister’s classroom, and if I had reason to make more, I definitely would!

I first saw this idea on The Pleated Poppy and thought perhaps I could make them.  So I rummaged through my bag of fabric, cut up a bunch of little pieces, and set to work at my sewing machine.

My version of the garland was super simple to sew together.  I just placed each piece under the foot of the sewing machine, one after the other.  The fabric scraps are connected only by the thread.  So far, they seem to be holding up just fine.  And they make our living space a little more cheery!

P.S. If you’re interested in buying something like this, be sure to check out The Pleated Poppy store.  (Hers are probably better made than mine too.)

  1. I love this! Yet another reason why I need a sewing machine. I try some crazy stuff by hand and it’s just not the same.

Love it! I still have to take a picture of mine in my classroom – it’s adorable!
